Old police photos from Quirky PrintsOld police photos have a definite ‘Dixon of Dock Green’ feel about them, definitely more stylish than the cop photos of today. It seems hard to believe that it was only seventy or so years ago, that policemen plodded their local beats, with only a baton as their defence! Brave men those Peelers, our beloved Bobbies from yesterday. Images of old police photos that we spot in magazines and books always seem to have such a genial air about them. Indeed, many of the poses they are caught in are almost comical, which is what makes them such great and sometimes funny pictures! Recognising their appeal, Quirky Prints decided to seek out a selection of these vintage photographs for their online art gallery. Their hunt for old images took them to hundreds of antique shops, collectors’ fairs, vintage photograph dealers and specialists around the UK. The resulting collection is literally thousands of hand-picked vintage photographs, on all manner of topics, including landscapes, people, shops, far-flung civilizations and transport from years ago. And among the many old black and white, sepia and hand coloured photographs that were collected, were some amusing and quirky vintage framed pictures from years gone by. Within the dedicated POLICE category on their website, Quirky Prints offers a selection of these unique vintage photographs. Traffic is halted by a policeman, as a cat casually and defiantly crosses the road, a policeman is caught striding along the street with a cello in his arms and a laughing policeman poses proudly in his uniform. All are captured in evocative colour or black and white photographic detail. These old, forgotten, but delightful old police photos, make stunning framed pictures. They are a unique art idea, which can be hung in our homes, or bought as original and inspired gifts for friends. No matter that we know nothing of the people or places in these old photographs. They are moments frozen in time - Old, rare pictures with their own unique story to tell. And they have as much meaning and resonance with us today, as they had for those involved in creating the vintage photograph in the 1900s. The original vintage framed pictures are all reproduced using the Giclee method on finest grade, heavyweight fine art paper, to preserve all the fine detail and quality of the image. They are then enlarged and presented in contemporary metal frames, which have been carefully chosen both to enhance the images and to complement any style of home decor. Quirky prints are masters in photo restoration and these are a very original interior design idea. For anyone who is completely uninspired and bored with the same prints offered for sale in the high street – those thousands of similar framed pictures that appear in thousands of homes across the UK - Quirky Prints offers something new, some different. Something Quirky in fact! Besides old police photos, there are many other categories to choose from on the Quirky Prints website - from Agriculture to World War II – with literally thousands of images taken from original vintage photographs. Each of the old black and white photographs has been carefully restored to remove any damage, but preserve the originality of the image. Others have been painstakingly hand coloured or had their original colours restored. From the Bow Street Runners to the 1900s, the result is a remarkable visual time capsule of years gone by. Within the collection of old police photos on the Quirky Prints website, we can share a few smiles with the friendly ‘bobbies’ from years gone by! |
