Vintage fine art photography from Quirky Prints

The search for a unique birthday gift was the inspiration behind the launch of a new website of vintage fine art photography, aptly named Quirky Prints.

A group of friends met, with the aim of using their combined skills and expertise, to identify a niche in the popular art market. As both the food and wine flowed, it became clear it was going to be difficult to be different. Popular art was an overcrowded market. The same prints for sale in the high street - thousands of similar pictures appearing in thousands of homes across the UK. Something brand new was needed – something Quirky in fact – so what about vintage fine art photography!

A last-minute panic dash for a unique gift to give as a birthday present provided the seed of inspiration needed! The Quirky team found themselves browsing in a local antique market for inspiration. There, they found some intriguing vintage photographs. Old Sepia, black and white, hand-coloured prints of landscapes, people, shops and transport from times long ago. The “massive hit” for the birthday gift, was an odd, but arresting, framed vintage photograph of a man proudly standing by his motorbike, from the 1920s. Thus, the Quirky Prints brand was launched.

Nothing of the sort - two years of dedication to collecting beautiful pictures from vintage photograph dealers, auctions, old collections and specialist shops from all round the world, has produced an archive of thousands of hand-picked vintage photographs, each with their own story to tell.

The original vintage prints are all reproduced on finest grade, heavyweight, beautifully textured art paper using the Giclée printing method, to preserve all the fine detail and quality of the image. These Giclée prints are then enlarged and presented in contemporary metal frames, carefully chosen both to enhance the images and to complement any style of home decor.

Besides vintage fine art photography, there are thirty-four other categories to select from on the Quirky Prints website - from Agriculture to World War II – with literally thousands of images acquired from original vintage photographs. Each of the old black and white photographs has been carefully restored to remove any damage, but preserve the originality of the image.
